Serif MoviePlus X6 Review

In the Movie Plus series from Serif we are now up to the X6 version. The suite was originally designed for casual home use and therefore geared towards ease of use, and this has not changed much over the years either.

New Features

This new version comes with lots of new features such as a quick movie option, many different video file converters, a 3D adjustment feature, and various color & dynamic lighting adjustments that are possible. It also comes with twenty professional themes included as standard which are customizable and complete with matching effects and transitions to make everything match across video playback.

Ease to Use

From start to finish MoviePlus X6 was created with true ease of use in mind. This starts at the installation level, which is simply done through the Serif web site. The process is simple and straight forward enough for any beginner to be able to follow it through until the end. The whole process takes around ten minutes total and that also includes downloading video files to your computer when enjoying a reasonably brisk broadband connection.

Upon start up MoviePlus X6 for the first time, the software presents its users with a pop up where a selection can be made from several options. The options include:

• Starting a new project
• Open an existing one

For new users tutorials are offered on the screen as well and there even are some pre-made projects to explore and play around with. These will also help to give you some new ideas as well as more detailed information as to what might be possible when you learn how to use the software better. This is especially true when it comes to the information provided about the stop motion and tilt-shift features which are well documented and useful.

Features

Once a new project has been started, the main windows opens up unleashing the full program. The video that is used is always displayed in the top left of your screen offering a preview of your work. Above the preview window, all the tabs and menus are located for opening files, inserting media files, importing and exporting, and all the other options one would expect.

Compatibility

MoviePlus X6 is compatible with all versions of Windows starting with Windows XP. The software is available for purchase online with direct download from the Serif website. However, there is no free trial version we could find for trying the software out before purchase.

Overall

In conclusion, MoviePlus X6 is a good and complete video editing package for personal home use. However, it lacks the advanced features and level of control which is required to be suitable for professionals.
