SplashID Safe Review

SplashID Safe is one of the largest apps for password management, with over 1 million registered users and growing rapidly.

One of the reasons for this is that the developers have embraced cross-platform compatibility fully. Windows XP and later versions are supported for the PC and Apple OS 10.5 and later versions are supported on the Mac. There is a USB KeySafe product that slots into a USB port for passwords on-the-go and a multitude of mobile apps for conceivably almost all types of mobile platform available. It's serious impressive.

Features

Not only can you store login information for web sites, but there is also space for personal information to help auto-fill sign-up forms, credit card details, software registration codes, PIN numbers and more. Record types can be completely customized to store any information desired.

Encryption

Encryption for passwords and other data is performed using the public Blowfish algorithm which has a bit rate of encryption between 32 and 448 bits. 256-bit AES encryption is also utilized for a dual level of encryption for double protection. This makes it one of the most robust, tough to crack encryption setups available for password manager security. Your data feels safe.

Unlocking the password manager can be performed using a master password, but on the desktop version can also use a touch-sensitive monitor or a mouse to trace a symbol that will be recognized and unlock the app too.

User Interface

The main display on the desktop version is very attractively laid out – recently improved with the latest version – to show all relevant information in a logical manner. There is also now the ability to mask sensitive information like passwords from automatically displaying, to prevent nosy passersby from seeing private information.

A unique feature is the reminders option that can remind users on the right date when a password should be rest, and also to give a friendly reminder when stored credit cards are due to expire soon.

The de-dupe feature helps users locate duplicate web site login information and other data that has been stored twice.

Mobile apps come in all flavors with SplashID Safe. Apps exist for the iPhone/iPod Touch, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, HP WebOS, Palm OS, and Symbian Series 60. Each app is sold separately to the PC or Mac version.

SplashID KeySafe

The SplashID KeySafe is a 4GB USB drive that is literally in the shape of a key, complete with hollow oval at the top to hook it through your key-chain. The software for SplashID Safe is pre-installed for both PCs and Macs. Simply slot the KeySafe into a USB port, enter the password and you have instant access to your data from anywhere. When removing the KeySafe, the data stored on it goes with you.
