SentryPC first came on the market in more limited form back in 2001. It has since evolved into a package that doubles both as a parental control app for parents and a monitoring & access control app for business use.

30 Day Restricted Trial

The SentryPC software can be trial run for up to one hour per Windows session over a 30 day period. This gives full access to the software's full capabilities, but lacks actual application for monitoring or restricting access beyond 60 minutes per time until a purchase is made.

Different Versions

There is the SentryPC Standard and Plus version. The main extra with the Plus version is the addition of logs and alerts which can be tracked through an online account. Monitoring is performed in real-time and this can be seen using any internet-ready device.

Web Site Filtering Subscription

Beyond the purchase of the app, there is the option to purchase a one year subscription to their web site filtering service. This ensures that new sites are being added to the software's banned list on an ongoing basis, rather than the software only including the web sites it knew about when the software was sold to you.

Licensing

An initial purchase covers installation of the software for up to 3 PC's. Additional PC licenses can be purchased separately.

System Requirements

The application runs on Windows only, any version from Windows 2000 to Windows 8. Both 32-bit and 64-bit modes are supported.

Features

The software attempts to straddle the line between a business restricted access & monitoring application and a parental control application. There is the risk with this that it will perform neither job perfectly.

For instance, with some other parental control applications there is a predator feature that will show information of registered sex offenders who have moved into the local area, something that it is doubtful will ever be included with SentryPC. Having said that, the features that are included are well thought out and of good quality.

Activity monitoring is a big part of the software. Here the app will log keystrokes, web sites accessed, chats, IMs, applications loaded, take periodic captures of the desktop, and log Windows opened are logged.

Content Filtering & Time Management

Content filtering is setup for applications, chats, IMs, web site access, and keywords & common phrases can be restricted too. Here is where the parental control part of the app comes mostly into play.

Time management is also a feature with time restrictions possible for computer usage or a full block of access. The time management feature is less comprehensive than with other apps that allow more granular control on what activities can be time restricted.

Support

SentryPC comes with online assistance in the form of a FAQ, help documentation, how-to guides and an installation guide. There is also a latest news section covering any software issues and forthcoming new versions.

A support form for emailing a query through to the staff is also provided. Having the Order ID to hand to add to the form would be a good idea too.
